What If?
What if you got to be about 14-15 years old and had never heard of God? Never had you heard of His name? Never had you known anything about Him?
What if:
- you saw birds flying through the sky, clouds floating aimlessly by and you wondered how they did it?
What if:
- you saw mountains capturing snow in the winter and sending it down in sparkling streams in the summer and wondered how it happened that way every year?
What if:
- on a dark evening you saw bright, effervescent stars glittering and a bright yellowish moon glistening and wondered how they got there and what keeps them?
What if:
- you woke up one morning and saw a beautiful morning sunrise, ushering in another day of life and that evening you saw a bright array of colors just before they all disappeared into the night and wondered how night and day got separated in the first place.
What if:
- you watched as a baby squirrel scampered up a tree, its tail fluttering as it went along going nowhere at all and wondered why a dog can’t do that?
What if:
- you heard a mockingbird performing melodious sounds to no audience at all and for what?
What if you looked at yourself in the mirror and:
- wondered why you got hungry or thirsty?
- wondered why you were sometimes happy, sometimes sad?
- wondered how you came furnished with fingers and toes to hold things and move things around, with eyes to see the wonderful colors of life?
- wondered why do some things have a very palatable odor, while others are odious? And how come honey tastes sweet and other stuff is so sour it burns your throat?
- and why you like music, and beautiful scenes, and sweet people, like your mom and dad, and the old fellow at the grocery store?
Why all these things and a thousand more?
And, what if:
- Someone taught you about God and how He created the world and all that is in it?
- You read in the revealed word of God about how He created man–and in His own image?
- You read in the Scriptures about how man sinned and separated himself from his Creator?
- You read in the revealed word of God about the horribleness of sin?
- You read in the Bible how God in His grace made a plan for man to be forgiven of His sin?
- You read about Jesus, the Son of God, and how He lived a sinless life?
- You read in His gospels how he showed His power and radiated the love of God in all He did?
- You read in His word about how He died a horrible death for your sin?
What if:
- You learned, from studying His word, what to do to receive the loving forgiveness of you sins?
- You learned how to follow the risen Savior and imitate His life in yours?
- You decided to follow Him and go to heaven when you die, and how you found the way back to God through His Son, Jesus Christ? And you decided to repent of your own sins and be baptized?
Or, what if:
- after having learned who you are, where you came from, and where you’re headed you decided to do nothing about your own sins?
What if?
