Volume 11

What Do You Mean 'Don't Worry'?

All I hear about on the radio or see on TV these days is the financial situation in our country. The presidential debates have been filled with their plans for the future. I wish I understood it all, but I do not. What I do know is that many in our country are concerned and fearful of what the future will be, and maybe you find yourself as one.

The Time Is Now!

Procrastination is “the act, tendency, or habit of putting off taking action until a future time.” Be assured, I speak from experience on this subject, and want you to know that what you read here is aimed first at myself. I hope you will profit from some of what I gained from contemplating and studying God’s word regarding it.

A Contrast in Character

Character is important. It is a person's moral or ethical quality that makes up the character. It constitutes one's reputation. Someone with good character is respected by men; they can be trusted and their good character will be appreciated. Someone with a bad character will be looked at disparagingly and will always be viewed suspiciously. God also considers one's character important, and His acceptance of individuals depends largely on their character.

Ike's Strike

Hurricane Ike was a storm to remember. Houstonians will speak of him the way they still talk about Alicia of 1983 and Carla of 1961, two names that have since been retired by the World Meteorological Organization. Likewise, Ike is one we will not soon forget.

A Story of Degenerating Generations

It certainly is not clear that Proverbs 30:11 is written to our generation specifically, but it certainly has an application to us. The inclinations here mentioned are so obviously present in our time that it seems as if Solomon were looking down our street. It behooves us to take a serious look at them. Let’s read:

Why Should I Attend?

This world offers an abundance of activities in which to involve ourselves. Some of us enjoy various kinds of sports and sometimes participate either in recreational leagues or compete in school: sports such as baseball, racquetball, tennis, soccer, football, volleyball, golf, or softball. We all have an assortment of hobbies and interests that we make time for in our schedules, such as sewing, scrapbooking, woodworking, fishing, birdwatching, reading, gardening, painting, video games, or playing music. Some teenagers even view sleeping as a hobby.

Who Do You Think You Are Anyway?

That sounds like a negative question, doesn’t it–like one your parents might have asked when you took the law into your own hands and did what you wanted, instead of what your parents told you? Well, I don’t mean it to be negative, although that’s a good question when you apply it to your heavenly Father’s instructions also, but I want to be more fundamental than that. Just who do you think you are anyway?

Personal Evangelism Is Just That -- Personal

“Therefore those that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word” (Acts 8:4).

Wisdom and Youth

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was a teenager at Florida College, full of energy and life, feeling like I could take on the world. I was going to be successful. I was going to be somebody. I had so many things I wanted to do, places I wanted to visit, goals I wanted to accomplish. And considering just how smart I thought I was, there was no doubt all those dreams would come true.
